Official Opening

Yesterday morning at shortly after breakfast, our Canolfan Grefft/Craft Centre had its official opening, when the heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones unveiled a commemorative Berwyn quarry slate plaque. If I recall correctly, the old centre managed to get a royal. Times change. Anyway, he referred to the centre as contributing to the ‘spiritual and economic wellbeing of the nation’.

He was referring to the importance of the ‘creative economy’. And that’s the nation’s economy, mark you, and not just Rhuthun’s. But this cultural gateway will and shall have a significant impact on the local real economy. It’s said that over 45,000 have visited the craft centre since if (unofficially?) opened at the end of July. That equates to some 135,000 per annum and if they buy nothing other than a coffee and a scone & cream, that’s a £540,000 contribution itself.
