Hair Care

If you include the Vale Country Club, we think that there are currently 11 ladies' hairdressers in Rhuthun. The latest to open was MDUK, on St Peter's Square, in October.

Next month, there'll be a twelfth, from 5th January, to be exact. This is Celtic Hair Design, and they've been readying their salon since the first week of December. It's good to see the former Cronin/Scouts/Juice Bar/Craft Centre Gallery at the top of Well Street in use again.

There are about 2,200 women over 16 in Rhuthun (though this will grow as Glasdir takes off). As of next month, it means there's a hairdresser for every 183 females over this age. And that's not including St Dyfnog Springs or mobile hairdressers.

Of course, there's also the rural hinterland to consider and we'd estimate that there are another 2,800 women of a similar age, the sort of age that might frequent a salon, some of whom will get their hair done in Dinbych or Yr Wyddgrug/Mold, if they live in the north or east of Rhuthun.

Dinbych, on the other hand, offers just six salons, if I understand yell.co.uk correctly. Its population is not quite double Rhuthun's. And Yr Wyddgrug has some 12, the same number as Rhuthun's, with a population about 2½ times greater. Not to mention the salons in Bwcle, Mynydd Isa, and so on.

So, with a considerable number of hairdressers per head of population (excuse the pun), what does this say about us? That we're blessed with hair salons? That we're over-provided? Or that we're relatively well off so can afford more hair care?
