Defrosting

While the likes of Debenhams in Chester reopened after Christmas at 7 a.m. on Boxing Day, giving staff the customary single day off, Rhuthun is slowly defrosting after its Christmas break.

Some shops reopened on Saturday 27th, others yesterday, more on Friday 2nd January and yet others on Monday 5th January. One stays shut till 15th January and another till 19th.

There were 22 hardy traders open on Saturday, just over a quarter of all town centre shops. This figure included the post office, the two supermarkets and the department store B & M. In truth, shoppers were few and far between, with at midday about 12 cars parked in Market Street, 15 in Dog Lane, 10 in Clwyd Street and two in Troed y Rhiw car parks. Unsurprisingly, Tesco’s was more than ¾ full. Food restocking was likely to be uppermost in people’s minds.

With apologies if I’ve missed any out, those open on Saturday were:

B & M, Baroque, Boots the Chemist, Clwyd Army & Navy, Castle Bell, Co-op, Designer wear sale, Ethel Austin, Halifax, John Jones, Tefor Jones, Mococo, Pet Place, Post office, Seconds Ahead, Simmi, Siop Nain, Tesco, Tresher,Twenty-3, Village Bakery and Well Street Pharmacy.
