Gavin Harris, Monorhaus

I am pleased with the overall result of our efforts this year. More importantly I am optimistic based on the feedback so far from shopkeepers and general commentators that this is something we can built on.

Let's put things in perspective! By the start of November, there was no apparent retail led initiative to do something for Christmas. We knew we needed to avoid street closures—these had been damaging last year. We went for a 10 per cent promotion without realising M&S would go for 20 per cent or Woolies 50. Many retailers bought into this idea.

All businesses need to work together to Rhuthun’s benefit and advantage. As does everyone. Whatever you think you can contribute to initiatives to ensure Rhuthun/Ruthin makes it through the next couple of hard years, get in touch. All enthusiasts are welcome and necessary. Moaners need not apply!

From Bob Costain, Produce Market architect

I would be delighted to see a few more faces involved in our efforts to keep Rhuthun/Ruthin alive and afloat. If you have some positive ideas why not contact The Manorhaus with your details and we'll get in touch. To the moaners I say tell us what you would have done to make more of an impact...

From Jo Thomas, Montecito
I can't speak for everyone of course but I thought it worth the effort. There was a lovely bustle in the town. I assure you compared to last year's ‘event’ it was a *huge* improvement as far as sales were concerned. Last year I made no sales yet my shop was full of people complaining about everything from the town being essentially closed, to the non-Christmassy music being played. This year those who did come into my shop said how much they had enjoyed it. The advert was quite right—less is more!

Now thanks to Radio Cymru people have been reminded of us and who knows they may choose a day in the week to visit.

We sold out on Friday at 7pm. Saturday was the best Produce Market this year.

Market Sreet car park was three quarters full at 7 p.m. on Friday.

I tried Woolies 50 per cent off but was disappointed and bought nothing. I went back to Ruthin and spent a little and enjoyed the feel of the place with more people on the streets.

And finally, what we said about Saturday
Bravo Rhuthun!
