Market Leader. For a While

It’s a strange thing but Rhuthun pump fuel prices have become more competitive of late, especially for diesel. The cheapest gallon of diesel in Rhuthun at the moment weighs in at £5.40 at Bridge Services (£1.189/litre). This is currently 4½ p cheaper per gallon than at Morrison’s, Dinbych. There was the same differential in Rhuthun’s favour at Yr Wyddgrug/Mold, till the middle of last week. Little wonder, then, before Saturday morning’s delivery, Bridge Services had actually run our of Texaco diesel!

The cheapest unleaded, also at Bridge Services, is just a penny a litre more than in either Dinbych or Yr Wyddgrug. This is the best differential for years. This means that to fill an average Ford Focus hatchback with 12 gallons of unleaded costs £59.38 in Rhuthun, a premium of just 60p compared to Dinbych & Yr Wyddgrug.

The cost of fuel has been declining faster in Rhuthun than at its neighbours. The cost is now below the May 2008 figure and well past the peak of late June/early July. But, even with the falls, fuel is still about 25 per cent higher than this time last year. And expect the fall to be temporary in nature, for the reasons we have previously outlined.
