The People have Spoken

One of the reasons why elections are so interesting is because they involve real people. In local politics, such people are known and respected (yes, respected). We can share in their triumphs and in their losses. We therefore congratulate the winners as announced sometime between 4.30 and 5.00 p.m., the last division to be declared on Denbighshire’s website.

Rhuthun has elected three councillors. And so it is that we have two new faces. Sort of. The new county councillors are Bobby Feeley and freshman David Smith. Smith has been a town councillor for some while; Feeley was once elected to the county council but failed in the last two elections, coming fourth in 2004. Feeley was also on the old Glyndwr and Clwyd councils. Both councillors are popular and well known in Rhuthun.

Re-elected is equally popular Morfydd Jones. She retains her seat in a close run contest seeing her just 26 votes ahead of fourth placed Elwyn Edwards. In something of a surprise, Edwards loses his seat after a career spanning Glyndwr Council and the entirety of Denbighshire council, mostly in leadership positions.

We must thank both Edwards and retiring councillor Ken Hawkins for their work on behalf of Rhuthun. Hawkins continues on the town council.
