Rhuthun results here

Following Thursday’s elections, the make-up of Denbighshire council has changed significantly. If we have our figures right, the Conservatives have more than doubled their representation, to become the main party, though the council has no overall control. The losers were Independents (down by about one third) and Prestatyn’s Democratic Alliance, losing all three of its councillors (though the sitting councillors chose not to use the Alliance ticket).

The only upset in the county council elections from Rhuthun hinterland villages was the failure of sitting councillor Bob Barton to be re-elected in Llanarmon/Llandegla. Christine Evans, an Independent candidate, romped home ahead of her two rivals, including Barton, both neck-and-neck.

The battle at Llanbedr DC saw a close contest returning Conservative Pauline Dobb ahead of Independent Huw Williams of Rhescoed farm, by just 39 votes.

Efenechtyd ward was another close contest. Always previously unopposed, long serving Plaid Cymru senior councillor with a pedigree going back to Glyndwr and Clwyd councils Eryl Williams was returned by 71 votes.

Llanfair DC/Gwyddelwern’s Independent Huw Evans saw a decisive victory, for his second term. Gwilym Evans (Independent) retained Llandyrnog by a margin over Lib Dem Mark Young. Ditto for Llanrhaeadr’s sitting Independent, Paul Marfleet.
