Yet More Investing...

... in our heritage, that is. From time to time on this site, we’ve featured a number of homes for sale that will appeal to those with a sense of local history. They are the antidotes to the modern dwellings currently under construction at Parc Rhuthun (Glasdir, to its friends).

One is Clwyd Hall Lodge at Llanychan. It isn’t cheap, at £435,000 but will, no doubt, reduce in price. It’s currently about £100,000 over the estimated price of a four/five-bed property on Glasdir and offers equivalent accommodation in an extended property once a lodge for Clwyd Hall, the large estate once one of the medieval "parks" of Rhuthun. Its position is unrivalled.

Another property of considerable interest is near the quadrangle at St Peter’s. It’s a bit of a backwater and one that’s not only convenient for the town, it’s full of immense character, near the collegiate church and the hospital almshouses. £100,000 gets a ground floor two bed apartment (albeit in need of some modernisation). Two bed flats at Glasdir come in at £155,000 cheapest.

Finally, off the scale, comes Eyarth Station, currently a bed and breakfast or guest house, in another idyllic situation. £800,000 is the asking price for six beds, two paddocks and an outdoor pool. Worth the price of two houses at Glasdir? The railway line opened in 1863 but was closed in 1963 but the Rhuthun-Corwen section fell in c.1960, following a landslide. Eyarth Station is the most visible reminder of a different, railway age.

Meanwhile, the apartment at Scott House is reduced by £20,000 to £250,000.
