Pool Parc

This sign sprung up during week beginning 5 November 2007, inviting people to sample a walk in “Pool Parc”. The Forestry Commission has cleared some land and set out a small car park. From there, it’s just another walk in the coniferous forests west of Rhuthun, in a sort of “pan handle”. You first walk out along a long stretch and then perform a square, describing in total the two-dimensional outline of a kitchen pan. Sad but true—watch out for dog dirt underfoot.

It’s disappointing that you get no glimpse of Pool Park House, which lies above the woods to their west. This was the former hospital, which closed 17 years ago. It and the estate tended always to be called by its English name. Those who find “Pool Parc” sounds somewhat strange may like to know that this is actually the Welsh version by which the area was (and is) known.

The car park is located off the B5105 about two miles south west of Rhuthun, at SJ103563.
