Hold the Front Page

Ysgol Brynhyfryd featured in the letters page of the Free Press again this week – for its alleged Welsh language under-achievement, for second language pupils. It’s as well that the newspaper hasn’t taken this forward editorially as it did with Denbigh High School. Perhaps that’s because there’s little substance in what the now three Free Press correspondents state. Perhaps its because Ysgol Brynhyfryd posts the best results in all mixed comprehensives in Denbighshire and is therefore a success.

Meanwhile, this Free Press placard – same edition of the same newspaper – is not what it seems. Which school trip is threatening to strike terror in the community? Let us know and we can avoid the area. And it’s not Ysgol Brynhyfryd, by the way; and for the record it refers to a school trip that was unexpectedly cancelled owing to an external security threat.

Last week's front page headline read, "90yr old granny in flood rescue". Who was this brave pensioner who was rescuing people during the torrents of the week before? Or was it a story about a Llandyrnog grandmother and her grand children who the police rescued from floods in Llandyrnog?
