Alexandra

So, the Bryant Homes/Taylor Woodrow Glasdir housing development, some of whose footings and foundations are already in place, is named “Alexandra Court”. No matter how pretty the name, people of Rhuthun may wonder why the developer has chosen such an English-sounding one, when they could’ve picked any number of relevant and poetically sounding names in Welsh. There are but a handful of streets and roads in Rhuthun with English names; and no new housing estates with them (Parc Brynhyfryd, Bryn Eryl, Erw Goch all spring to mind). The suggestion might therefore be that Bryant at least renames the plot “Cwrt Alecsandra”, though we’re not sure about the spelling of “Alecsandra”. Sounds too Wenglish. Or, perhaps, the Welsh spelling and naming of streets and closes will follow.
