No More Sundays

It seems a little odd that since 25 January Royal Mail has closed the town’s main post box, at the Post Office, St Peter’s Square.

Is this Cymru/Wales' only post office without a post box?

They give distances to the nearest two boxes (Castle Street and School Lane) but no directions. Not so fine if you are unfamiliar with the town.

The Royal Mail attributes the closure to “health & safety” reasons. The aperture on the side of the building drops to the box inside the building. What appears to have happened is that the box itself has collapsed and made it difficult for postal staff to pick up fallen letters and parcels.

We suspect that during normal office hours you can hand in your letters and parcels at the post office itself – no change of service there. What happens at other times, particularly Sundays? Rhuthun/Ruthin has actually now lost its Sunday collection, as the Post Office was the only box benefiting from such a facility. The alternatives listed have no Sunday collection.
