Rhuthun’s Annual Glow

Those of you Christmas shopping who yesterday (Saturday) queued for car parking and again at the shops in Caer/Chester, Wrecsam, Yr Wyddgrug/Mold or Llandudno – or queued for Tesco in Rhuthun – certainly missed out on Rhuthun town centre at its best.

Rhuthun yesterday was busy without being over-crowded. It was possible (with a little searching) to find a café table for lunch.

It was a delight to wander round the town in the sunshire, bumping into regulars and not-so-regulars. It was a delight, also, to see the produce market at the Old Gaol and in St Peter’s Square full and doing well.

We mentioned the same thing last year. It’s true to say that in spite of traders’ fears over Tesco (something that won’t go away), Rhuthun really can surprise us all in producing such a warm glow, one we should never allow to go out. And it’s on our doorstep.

How many people did you bump into in Chester & Wrecsam? Literally loads in the crowds no doubt – but what about in terms of people to chat to?

With a rich variety of small traders and a welcoming atmosphere, days like yesterday confirm Rhuthun is by far the best place on earth.
