It won't always be like this but last night, at about 7 p.m., the Co-op was absolutely crowded. There were long queues at all available checkouts and especially at the express till. So crowded, in fact, that I chose to put my items back, and went instead to Somerfield (which I prefer, in any case). Somerfield was much easier; even its limited car park contained just three cars.
Is this Co-op’s swan song?
In fact, it’s now 10 days till Tesco opens and they’re already stocking up. You can see from the picture that there’s a Tesco lorry unloading and one waiting, not especially judiciously, parked on a left-hand bend. And that’s another issue. As Tesco opens more and more stores, so it needs more and more heavies in which to transport its stock. The two tractor units were 55-reg and fairly new.
