From Our Royal Correspondent

Till Monday's funeral, the media have nothing on which to report save for That Queue, shuffling its 22-hour-long way around Llundain/London. It's there to behold, seemingly permanently, on TV's red button and, among the random Britons you encounter, missing will be one famous royalist, Colin. At 81, he's had to concede that a trip to Llundain for either That Queue or the funeral is no longer for him. At least he's been on the telly, this time on three occasions.

Colin inhabits a different world. How ever is he going to manage? The last of the women in his life has now died. They were the princess Diana, the queen mother and now the queen. He was apparently away on a cruise in Norway when the death occurred and, again apparently, he couldn't get back here quick enough. He was nevertheless too distraught to attend Sunday's commemoration service at St Peter's.

I wonder whether queen Camilla will have such allure for him. Somehow, we think not. There's always the duchess of Cambridge, I suppose.

It's acceptable for men to get very exercised about football. Why then does it seem so odd if someone is passionate about other interests such as royals?
