Could Be Worse

One minute read ▼

The library’s hours will change on June 1st. It isn’t quite as bad as first proposed but it still represents opening on only four days (currently five). The hours are as follows:

Rhuthun Library Mon  Tues Wed Thurs   Fri Sat
Current     9.30 - 5 9.30 - 6 9.30 - 5 9.30 - 5 9.30 - 12.30
Proposed 10 - 5 10 - 1 10 - 5 10 - 12.30
Agreed 1/6/2410 - 5 10 - 6 12 - 5 9.30 - 12.30

This means that, currently, the library is open for 31 hours per week. The consultation proposals resulted in a cut to 19.5 hours. The agreed opening times have come out at 23 hours per week. That’s a reduction of a quarter (26 per cent) rather than 37 per cent as initially suggested.

I guess that we should count ourselves fortunate.

You’ll note that Monday, previously earmarked for closure, is now open. It’s swapped with Friday, when the library will now close. This no doubt is as a result of a Monday reading session for toddlers but, overall, it’s better to have the building open on the Friday than the Monday. There are more people in town on a Friday.

There are still precious few people actually in the library or at least that’s the case whenever I visit.
