Published yesterday was the first peek at what we might expect under Levelling Up funding. We all have an opportunity to express our views. But is this consultation or information? Timescales are tight and there can be little room for anything other than that suggested.

On the positive side:

✓ We say goodbye to the hated roundabout and the sea of grey tarmac that between them conspire to make pedestrians’ lives difficult. You remember pedestrians? Those who actually spend money in town?

✓ There’s what appears to be a better setting for the world class street-scene called St Peter’s Square.

On the negative side:

✖ Could there be a more imaginative way of setting off the Square to its best advantage? We need more information.

✖ There appears little that will actually slow traffic or deter motorists from driving through town.

We should be discouraging through traffic rat runners. Instead, we should welcome and encourage motorists who want to come into town to shop, visit, transact business and enjoy a cake ’n’ cuppa (if not a full meal).

Market Street looks lovely but what of Well Street, Clwyd Street and especially our main heritage street, Castle Street? No mention of these

Bro Rhuthun~the Rhuthun/Ruthin Blog will publish more on this when we have gathered our collective thoughts.
