A Sight for Sore Eyes

The former Naturally Ethical premises on Well Street is occupied as from today. Moving across the road is Smith (and Schwartz) Opticians. While this does leave their current premises unoccupied, Naturally Ethical is by far the more prominent premises. Unfilled, it lends a desolate air to lower Well Street.

And it’s a vote of confidence in Rhuthun/Ruthin. The business has traded here for some 40 years. In spite of the changes we see, they are investing. The premises are bigger and the business will be able to offer more services. Perhaps the optician sees a better future in town now that its competition has moved from the centre to the former Wern Vets building some distant from downtown Rhuthun..

We can’t say that the shutters are particularly attractive but we understand why they may be necessary—even if Rhuthun/Ruthin’s crime rate is as low as it gets. At least they’re ornate and are behind the glass and not in front of the windows.

Compare this to the situation in spring 2023 when RMS Retail put up the town centre’s first shutters, at The Machine. These were subsequently removed, thanks to action taken by the county council.

No shutters at the competition, though
