Rachel's Reappraisal

We promised that we'd let you know of the other pending closure and here it is.

Window notice at Rachel's Eco Store: 'cash is freedom'. Is this UK government policy, then? (Rachel Ryland is a town councillor on behalf of the Conservative Party)

Rachel's Eco Store, Clwyd Street, is to close down on January 27th. Should we mourn the pending loss of another local shop? Yes, insofar as it creates yet another gap in town. In this case, though, we do have two other overlapping sources of some of the eco-friendly dry goods, detergents and cosmetics on sale: Ruthin Wholefoods and Naturally Ethical. That does leave something of a gap in the Eco Store as regards ethically sourced jewellery and some clothes. Inside was quite an eclectic mix of gifts.

We did wonder whether there was room for all three. But, fair play for making the transition from the market hall to a lock-up shop.

Rachel's only opened towards the end of each week, usually Wednesdays to Saturdays. She had an extended Christmas break, closed from December 24th and reopening on January 10th. She had previously been in the market hall and, before that, had sold online. Her online shop seems to have evaporated, above.

Her other business was Awel Care, which she has recently sold.
