How Now, Brown Cow

Hufen iâ Cymraeg... neu hufen iâ Cymreig?

Here's a thing. We can be so proud of Chilly Cow's Swiss brown cows and their ice cream. The cows have made Chilly Cow into a successful local business.

Chilly Cow supply the local area and the region. That way, ice cream lovers know that when they buy Chilly Cow they have minimised the amount of food miles. In 2022, Chilly Cow progressively replaced phased out plastic spoons for wooden spatulas in their tubs.

Chilly Cow says it supports local businesses (with the caveat, 'where possible') but the interesting thing is that its tubs are made in... Italy. That's about 1,000 miles away, give or take.

Distance of 991 assumes transport from Milan. If farther south, the mileage increases, of course

Surely, someone can produce tubs more locally than that. If so, that would truly complement the Chilly Cow ethos and round things off nicely, environmentally, ethically and locally.

As an aside, we also liked this statement from Chilly Cow's website:

This kinda implies that their brown coats and fluffy ears are the reason the cows produce delicious milk. It might've been better to say, 'The farm is home to a herd of Swiss cows with their distinctive brown coats and fluffy ears. The herd may not be the most common breed in Wales but it produces delicious milk'.

And then there's Hufen iâ Cymraeg... neu hufen iâ Cymreig?
