The town council has sponsored three 'community books of you' designed to gather memories of Ruthin castle, Ysgol Borthyn and retail shops in Ruthin. They've been produced by a local company. They will be officially launched later this afternoon. Meanwhile, we've taken a look at them online and while the principle is great, the output isn't. There's such potential but it hasn't been tapped.
What’s disappointing about these 'books of you'?
Ruthin Castle: blurry image and sloppy editing (to the right of the picture, a white gap) is not untypical
- The lack of detail on most pages. You get the feeling that the people who've done this have just taken information when available rather than properly researched it.
- The fact that the pictures are relatively low resolution, which means when you enlarge them you miss the detail.
- There are few anecdotes. Some, admittedly, but few.
- There are no approximate dates for many of the pictures. You're left guessing as to when they were taken.
- Few people in the photographs are named.
- The whole project is somewhat limiting and limited.
But we still hope the launch tomorrow is a success.
