RIP Active Travel

I suppose it's a measure of just how quickly our three county councillors want rid of the active travel scheme that they have instructed its removal at the same time as the trunk road agency continues to rebuild and resurface Park Road.

Normally, council officers would never countenance two sets of roadworks in such proximity.

Signage was again out from March 8th, yesterday

The removal date is set for March 15th. It's ironic that this is also the date where some children at secondary school are permitted to return and who might be expected to be walking through town to and fro.

Also on the irony front, that day we need no longer stay at home as long as we stay local; and there's the return that day of hair salons and barbers so, on both counts, we can expect yet more people wandering around town. Remember that the scheme was designed to try to keep us safe while walking around town.

Update: 12/3/21: On Friday, with the permission of the town council, the Incredible Edible team was removing for reuse the herbs previously set out in the Market Street and Well Street planters. We don't yet know what will happen to the planters themselves.

Originally, signage went out on February 1st advising of removal, before being taken down the following day.
