Swan Wars

This year, the people in Rhuthun/Ruthin have shown some kindness to our Cae Ddol swans. The patriarch cob who is believed to be 22 years old and resident her for much of this time has been suffering from arthritis and a number of people have been feeding him. Meanwhile, his pen took ill over the summer and this resulted in a call to the RSPCA. They took her off but had to put her down. Old age was the diagnosis.

Lately, four two-year-olds returned to the lake, much to the displeasure of their father, our resident cob. His former signets left but have again returned.

Yesterday, came a significant threat with the arrival of another cob and pen. The interloper was rather large. Our resident cob saw them off but they were back again this morning and our cob who walks with difficult was showing significant agility on the water in trying to defend his patch.

At one stage and rather unusually, the cob was joined by one of this year's signets.
