One-way or No Way

This morning, work started on the 'temporary' post-virus one-way system. The first road to be treated was Market Street, where the closure will be in force for five days. By lunchtime, a chain of short barriers were in place along the upper part of Clwyd Street, to provide for active travel, including walking and cycling. They looked like an angular Loch Ness monster sliding along the grey of the carriageway. They will each have a short withe-and-red mast out of each.

The scheme is to be complete ahead of the official temporary traffic orders which come into place on Monday November 2nd.

Will the scheme be any good? Who knows. Market Street is probably the street which will benefit least but there may be merit in Well Street's changes. Providing, that is, traffic speeds don't increase (which, of course, under a one-way system, they will. The whole scheme is no substitute for proper, considered, well laid out pedestrian friendly measures.
