More Small Steps

Another step towards normality, today. Cafés, pubs and restaurants may reopen inside. Pubs and cafés closed after last orders on March 20th, slightly ahead of lockdown.

Today, Costa remained closed. It's likely to reopen in September. Likewise, Chatwin's continued to sell takeaway food and confectionery but its café was unavailable. Neither was Cafi Rh/Café R.

On a more positive note, W & G Jones's café was open, though patrons it had few. We're not really sure whether the Candy Shack (in the former Siop Nain premises) constitutes a café or not but it was open serving breakfast onwards. Bar Llaeth, already open for takeaways, was allowing people in.

Wetherspoon's was open early, as you'd expect. It was joined by the Boar's Head and the Park Place (both previously open as permitted outdoors). And the Feathers and the Castle, but its new courtyard café won't be available till Friday. The castle car park was overflowing.

Closed were the Farmers Arms, the Wine Vaults, the Corporation Arms and The Star. We understand that the Wine Vaults was open outside, as it had been previously. There is no sign of this on the Vaults' building, so you need to be in the know.

The approximate number of patrons within each establishment at about 9p.m. were:

Establishment Approx Within
 Wetherspoon's  Dozen
 Boar's Head  Dozen
Feather's  Less than half a dozen
 Park Place  Half-dozen

Also today, apart from Creative Hair and The Salon (Clwyd Street), Rhuthun/Ruthin's hairdressers were back to normal and closed as usual. It was a different story for the menfolk. Lads & Dads was shut but Hashm, the Cutting Corner and Lox Box were open. This, no doubt, is thanks to Hashm's, which has a reputation for opening all hours.
