Zooming around Town

Thanks to coronavirus, tonight's was the town council's second meeting via the now vogue-ish Zoom video conferencing software. This was available on Facebook and it ensured, at least in theory, a greater public participation. One downside in this regard is that members of the public have access to neither agenda nor reports, which puts them at a disadvantage, as councillors skirt around a subject about which they have already read.

There was mention of a town council staple: councillors were urged to stamp down hard on invidious dog poo before it got out of hand. There was concern about the number of complaints they had received and a request that Kingdom's replacement, District, target specific areas. No doubt referring to disturbing pictures on social media of an attack on a swan, there was talk of asking Denbighshire council to ensure dogs were always on leads when in Cae Ddol. If so, the queen of England would be pleased. She is said to own them all (swans, not councillors), even here in Cymru/Wales.

There were brief mentions of the Old Courthouse and the velodrome but since the public did not have the aforesaid access to documentation then it was really rather difficult to draw conclusions or even understand the short conversation (which was really a one way street).

And, talking of one way streets, councillors were asked to support the county council's proposals for Rhuthun/Ruthin. There was no agreement but there was no decent, either. Those who spoke (and I can remember the mayor, Cllr Gavin Harris, and Cllr Anne Roberts & county councillor Emrys Wynne) said very little. Mark my words, as a result of this, motorists will be zooming around town faster than in a video conference.

It was interesting and pleasing to learn that the town council had now received its cheque for the damage to the 2019 Christmas tree and lights.
