Bedazzled by the Castle

In the light of world events, it may be a case of bad timing but the new owners of and manager at Ruthin Castle are really pushing things. They want locals to come, in a way that no other recent owner has (let's be honest, the Castle's never been welcoming to Rhuthun/Ruthin residents). So, we see a refurbished gym; a redecorated spa; and a new forest walkway to both, to avoid locals having to go through the intimidating hotel reception.

Under new ownership *and* new management

Banners at the entrance promote this new regime, with the Castle seemingly pushing christenings, birthdays and celebration events alongside weddings.

Further, we understand that the push for locals will likely include the launch later this month of a mid-range walk-in dining offer between Wethershpoon's and On the Hill. This is expected to include Mondays. Why not make better use of the existing kitchens, while filling a gap in the market—we have nothing like that, in town, not at the moment. This alongside trying to hook in local drinkers—assuming a mitigation of the steep bar prices.

What's happened to the creation of a so-called "infinity pool" we do not know.

But, we expect the hospitality trade, already on a knife-edge, already banking on the usual upturn in summer trade, to take a hit. The last thing people will wish to do is congregate in relatively close quarters with others in bars or restaurants.
