A first for Rhuthun/Ruthin

Tonight's town council was the first to use the Old Courthouse. There was a full house of town councillors (all 15 present, plus clerk) and the new Old Courthouse manager, Kate Harcus. There were also four times the usual number of members of the public (i.e. there were four in total).

The building was resplendent and beautifully warm. The only problem was the fact that the agenda went off the screen after only several minutes, leaving the public unsure as to what was going on when.

And the acoustics. All but the mayor and his deputy faced away from the back. Strong voices carried but others did not and it was difficult to hear what a number of councillors were actually saying. In its previous venue, the public looked on from the side and could catch everything. It was also difficult to see the top table. Again, at the old venue, the top table was raised on a dais.

Overcome the acoustics with a microphone system and the town council can be very pleased that it has a venue that is fit for use.

The Clwyd Alyn presentation had something of a rough ride, though.
