Inside and Outside Wynnstay House

They've been at it since January this year, converting Wynnstay House, half of the former Wynnstay Arms. The project is likely to take a whole year and, during this time, the owners are living in Railway Terrace. There's much within to cause concern, from jerry-built quick fixes to leaks from the roof and from the plumbing. The occupants are putting right past wrongs, reinstating block-up doorways and they're taking out unsympathetic alternations—and there have been many of these, over the years, as the landlords have simply just tried to get things done so that their businesses can continue.

Within and only discovered last week is what they believe to be part of a 17th century frieze (bottom left hand square, above).

And, while under scaffolding, the view from the roof offers an unusual sight of Rhuthun/Ruthin's rooftops and the fields off Dog Lane. The owners will put the original slates back on the Well Street and Dog Lane sides, while those in the valley between will be reclaimed from elsewhere.
