Carnival

The annual carnival got its relaunch in 2013 and that year was well supported. Five years later and the number of entrants was slim and spectators weak (though better than the two years beforehand). We've said it before and we'll do so again... why won't Ruthinians support their community events? Whatever happened to the support we lent to the carnivals of 20 and 30 years ago?

There's got to be something vaguely backwater or toy-town about a place whose mayor elects to ride in the carnival on Thomas the Tank Engine. Meanwhile...

… the Martians have landed, with their trademark green legs.

We weren't sure whether this vehicle was used as acoustic accompaniment for the cheerleaders behind it, or just as a vintage car in its own right.

Rumbled!

Perhaps it was a veteran car because it certainly had no vehicle excise duty (car tax), which ran out at the end of April this year. This year we celebrate 20 years of the Ford Focus and this actual car, familiar to us all in Rhuthun/Ruthin, is from 2000, in the once ubiquitous metallic silver. It looks in fine shape.

These two valiant folk musicians were somewhat drowned out by the blare of the mobile discotheque at the head of the parade...

… which tried to engage the "crowds" to perform the longest Macarena in Rhuthun... not altogether successfully... although two of a hen party did oblige...

... as, it seemed, did a small party of air cadets. Dale a tu cuerpo alegria, Macarena. Hey Macarena.

I take it that the pink object in the hand of the blue-haired woman is a actually water bottle...
