Season

Hand-delivered invitations to yesterday evening's Business Marketing Evening went out to Rhuthun/Ruthin's 300 businesses. Present were about 45 people, some of whom were couples associated with the same organisation. It was nevertheless a fairly impressive turnout.

Literally Open Doors... "Ruthin shares its long and varied history through its buildings, people and stories. Open heritage weekends, guided walks, history talks. Take a peek back in town"

What they heard was that at £25 per organisation the Bro Rhuthun marketing group had reformed, was looking for business commitment and had produced a draft "Seasons" business plan. This was a suite of themed events dependent upon the time of year. There was a theme for each of the 12 months. The sincere request was that businesses get behind the seasons and offer incentives and offers surrounding them.

So, for example, in June, "Ruthin sings to the sound of summer, from the end of June with the week of Ruthin Festival, Graigaid and other local music events such as Llangollen Eisteddfod and the North Wales International Music festival. Sing along with Ruthin."

There was also a presentation by a bigwig from Go North Wales, the rebranded North Wales Tourism. In 2017, according to Lonely Planet, North Wales was the 4th best region in the world to visit. There were world heritage sites and of course Snowdon but it was the experiences that drew in people, such as the world's longest zip wire and 90-second artificial surfing.

His talk had little to do with Rhuthun itself. It was easy to think that visitors would simply by-pass Rhuthun... till you remembered that this was taking place within the unique Craft Centre itself, Rhuthun's asset that should mark it out as a must-visit destination.
