Decant

Like pouring good wine gently from bottle to bottle so as not to disturb or spill it, the decant (as it's called) at Ysgolion Rhos Street a Phen Barras has begun, with specialist staff dealing with the computer systems and packing up and carting out the chattels. These will all go into the new schools' halls till ahead of Monday April 9th, when there will be a huge effort to ready classrooms for the following day. Meanwhile, the Rhos Street/Haulfryn lollypop lady aka the school crossing patrol will herself decant to Denbigh Road. Just like the pupils themselves, she will probably no longer be able to walk to school, as Rhos Street's catchment is now suddenly at the wrong end of town. As a result, we anticipate more cars on the road as, from April 10th, the dynamics of Denbigh Road and the Northern Relief Road will change markedly. Little wonder there's such a huge car park at Glasdir.

The car park at the new schools is massive... but will probably fill up very quickly

So, what happens now at the old site?

Expect the "temporary" classrooms to be taken away, whereupon the county council will erect security fencing. They will then declare the site surplus. One of three things will happen (or a combination perhaps of 2. and 3.):

1. Schola Ruthinensis will buy the site as its music department. This is the least likely scenario.

2. The land will be used to extend the hospital car park and build a medical centre, transferring from Mount  Street.

3. It will terminate as housing, largely social in nature.

We're not aware that councillors have taken any decision.
