Off Duty

Firefighters were yesterday evening putting up bunting for Saturday's parade. Some shops have already decorated their windows with a World War One theme. The parade starts at St Peter's Square at 10.30 a.m. and heads to Ysgol Brynhyfrd, whereupon the people can enter a commemoration event free of charge. Let's hope for good weather—it isn't promising—and the best turnout.

It does clash, however, with that excuse for riotousness misconduct, the Vale ale booze bus service. To think, 100 years ago, Welsh men gave there lives for that. With  a clockwise service every 15 minutes (at least on paper: there are delays), they do say that each of the 10 pubs take more money on this one day than over the whole Christmas & New Year period.
