Mending Fences

There's been something of a tidy-up this month at the Walled City. First, the wooden Glasdir boundary fences are all mended. This is positive news as, progressively, they were literally being pulled (or were just falling) apart. The fencing was beginning to be something of an eyesore in its own right.

But there's more. Taylor Wimpey has tidied up its whole site. The compound between the estate and Dyffryn Services has lost its red hoardings, much of the leftover equipment and what's left has been neatly stacked.

The best improvement is to the rear. Here we find that the unoccupied housing that had suffered criminal damage is now boarded up; the site has been cleared of equipment; and cleared of the impromptu skateboarding accoutrements, as well. It still looks barren but at least it's tidy.

All very positive, improving the general state of the estate. But what does it mean? Has Taylor Wimpey set things right so that, once the commercial mortgage & insurance market's working, it can continue building? Or, more pessimistically, has it now packed up for good, leaving behind a Chernobyl-like half-completed, half-abandoned estate? Curiously, it has left the Tarmac hopper in place, which Taylor Wimpey rents, and it continues to light the seemingly abandoned show homes…

And how long will it actually take for insurance & mortgage commercial confidence to return, anyway?

Meanwhile, plants around the entrance to abandoned houses are untreated and add to the untidy nature of the place.
