Surpise Sponsor

This leaflet arrived at home today. Note the sponsor, bottom right

The most interesting thing about the pinnacle of the forthcoming Gwyl Rhuthun Festival is not the expected acts performing during Saturday's Top Dre (or the lack of them: where's the River City Jazzmen?) but this year's main sponsor: Taylor Wimpey. Surely, this is the stgrongest indication yet that the company's ready to restart its activity at Glasdir, two years and seven months after the disastrous floods. And about time, too, given the general Chernobyl-like landscape at the estate's fringes.

Shades of Tesco, then. Tesco sponsored Top Dre in 2006 (and the Urdd Eisteddfod, also in 2006). Tesco opened in Rhuthun/Ruthin in 2006. They don't bother offering sponsorship any more and they haven't since. Doesn't that speak volumes.

One other surprise: no Joe Woolford during Top Dre, though his teeny fans from Ysgol Brynhyfryd will be pleased to see him mid-afternoon three weeks aforehand, intoning at the community-owned Glan Llyn pub, Clawddnewydd, as part of the Hiraethog Beer & Bus Festival, for which roadside signs have been appearing in the Vale over the last fortnight.
