Carpet Market

The Tweedmill at Trefnant is very popular with locals and visitors alike. People will come there from some distance to shop. Even before its 2014 expansion and rebuild, the Tweedmill would draw people into the area. It is probably more important in terms of the visitor economy than much of the Vale.

Persuading Tweedmill visitors to explore farther down the Vale remains somewhat difficult. There's a reluctance to go south of the place. So, rather than complain about it, Uptown Interiors of Park Road Rhuthun/Ruthin has instead moved north to the Tweedmill. Uptown's opened a store-within-a-store at the Tweedmill. In spite of pattern books outside, it wasn't actually open on the day of this photograph (and no Tweedmill shop assistant was able to explain why). In spite of its small size, expect the turnover at Trefnant to exceed that at carpet-saturated Rhuthun.

Meanwhile, Rhuthun's longest standing carpet seller, Corwen Carpets, has downsized and moved to premises about 100 yards from what is currently a unit (behind the trees) which itself is now under renovation. They've occupied three units on Lôn Parcwr and also for a short time the former Blaze shop on Well Street (next to the Feathers, now flats).
