Several comments appeared on & from Monday 12th September regarding the Castle Hotel's ceiling. As an example,
May be there will be a fine in this case but the damage's done. Am I alone, though, in feeling just a little angry about this? That, through a gaffe, incompetence or possibly even intent, someone has destroyed something that's special, unique and irreplaceable and that this casts a shadow over the good work JDW is otherwise doing to this tired and threatened building. How dare they? I thought that sort of behaviour was confined to the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s. I am now certainly a little less disposed towards JDW in Rhuthun than once I was.
"Has anyone seen the mess in the Castle Hotel reception? They have ripped down that lovely ceiling in the entrance way which, I believe, was listed. Hope they have had permission… I worked at the hotel about 12 years ago and they [Planners] gave us hassle just for highlighting it in a gold colour"From what I can piece together from chatter around Rhuthun/Ruthin, J D Wetherspoon's contractors are now off the premises following the discovery that they've torn down that very ceiling. And, no, it appears they didn't have permission. Let's hope they've gone away with a flea in their ear. As another commenter stated only yesterday, "Companies like this do it all the time. They will be hit with a fine but they will have nice clean lines and carry on doing whatever they want".
