Square Hole Filled?

A lick of paint yesterday on the exterior of the former Thresher's off-licence on the Square may indicate that this prominent shop could be coming back into use again. Such a move would be more than welcome.

At one point, it was going to be a takeaway but perhaps fortunately, the idea was scotched. Such a location for this type of business is surely far from ideal.

Now, the shop is expected to revert to an off-licence. This is something new for the town, of course, following the closure of Thresher's and, before that, Oddbins. If indeed the word on the street is correct, it represents quite a brave investment given the two full aisles selling cheap booze at Tesco.

The former Thresher's premises were beginning to look rather tatty, so a repaint will help the Square's prominent streetscape. I think it's something of a sign of the times that a number of central Rhuthun/Ruthin buildings are currently looking past their best. There's obviously the Castle Hotel but apart from that there are a number of others. It would be unfair to name the businesses, as most of them simply rent but take a close look yourselves and you will see what I mean.
