All That Glisters...

After Sunday's pointless non-event of an A55 fuel protest convoy, what's happening locally in terms of the sale of liquid gold for our cars?

Well, on Saturday, the large pavement sign at Texaco Bridge Services still advertised cheap petrol on one side and cheap petrol twice a week on the other. On Sunday, one side was blank but the reference to cheap petrol twice a week remained. Yesterday morning, both sides were blank.

So, is this the end of the short-lived special offers at Texaco? For a short period, Bridge Services has been discounting petrol on certain days. For example, on Saturday, Texaco unleaded was not only 3p per litre cheaper than Esso Dyffryn Services, it was also:
  • The same price as at Morrison's in Dinbych/Denbigh
  • 1p cheaper than in Tesco & Shell in Yr Wyddgrug/Mold; and 2p cheaper than Esso there
  • 3p cheaper than Texaco at Loggerheads
  • 1p more expensive than Morrison's in Y Rhyl but the same price as at Shell and Sainsbury's
The position regarding diesel was more marked. Texaco at £1.399 per litre was 4p cheaper than its near neighbour. That equates to 18p a gallon. For a spectacular moment, Texaco Bridge Services' diesel was either the same price or lower than at Y Rhyl; at Dinbych; at Asda and Tesco in Wrecsam; at Loggerheads; and at Yr Wyddgrug/Mold.

On Sunday & Monday, Texaco's unleaded was up from Saturday's £1.349 to £1.369. This compared to Esso Dyffryn Services £1.379. And diesel was up to £1.429 but still 1p per litre under Dyffryn Services.

What will today's price be when the filling stations open in a couple of hours? Who knows. It's rather volatile at present, without any discount. But I'd say today at Texaco it'll be £1.359 unleaded and £1.409 diesel. Just a hunch.
