Petrol Station Refit

This time last week, Bridge Services was cordoned off while contractors erected a new totem pole and completed the installation of new fascia signs and petrol pumps. It's made a considerable difference and the price indicator pole replaces the old one that was designed to go up to 99.9p only.

Petrol hasn't been that low at Bridge Services since November 2007. Then, the remedy at first was simply to ignore the fact that fuel had gone over the £1 mark but soon after there appeared a sticky solution: white strips affixed to the left of the prices to make it look as if the indicator was correct, by adding what passed for the digit 1.

Immediately upon the completion of the refit, diesel went up from £1.339 where it had been on 1st January to £1.349 per litre. It settled back to £1.339 where it stayed, including throughout yesterday but, at a little before close of business yesterday, the cost of diesel at Texaco diesel at Bridge Services went up to £1.349 per litre.

Indeed, unlike unleaded, diesel has been all over the place last month, with prices the highest at Bridge Services Texaco. On 14th it had reached £1.359; on the 15th it had reduced to £1.339. Up it went to £134.9 on the 17th. By the refurbishment, it was £1.339 and, as mentioned, yesterday evening it became £1.349.

At the close of business last night, fuel prices were therefore:
  • Esso: £1.309 (unleaded); £1.339 (diesel)
  • Texaco: £1.299 (unleaded); £1.349 (diesel)
