Lobby

As if to re-enforce the view that charity flag selling is disappearing in town and moving out, a Salvation Army brass band was playing outside Tesco yesterday. The new environmental lobby slightly sidelined the Salvationists but that didn’t stop them playing carols with gusto.

Notice that with the building of the environmental lobby, completed week beginning 30th November, the end of the pedestrian crossing now maroons customers. The protected area behind the new steel bollards squeezes pedestrians against the glass of the lobby and is less than 1m wide. The crossing used to beat a path right to Tesco's open door. With access now to the left and right of the lobby, the zebra seems superfluous and pointless, as customers might now avoid it as they start on the crossing and fan to the left or right. It may even actually be a hazard.

When completed, the lobby looked a little shabby. It was marked and gashed and almost looked second hand. A lick of paint seems to have sorted it out.
