Marks & Spencer

We continue to document that changes we see in Rhuthun.

Marks & Spencer

Upstairs at Simmi has opened as a clothes exchange agency. ‘Absolute discretion’ is assured clients who want to sell the clothes and shoes they’ve only managed to wear a few times. The sign on the door promises a range of designer labels in store, including those of Marks & Spencer. Simmi will give 60 per cent of the sale price to the seller. Apparently, age isn't an issue as Retro is In. Competition for Cllr Bobby Feeley’s Pass it On, Well Street.

Cronin

A number of premises have recently received a bit of a makeover. Most prominent is the former juice bar (and before that Scout Association, and even before that Cronin newsagent) that housed the temporary Craft Centre sales gallery. It’s morphed from dark blue to fawn but remains unlet. Meanwhile, the Hide Away (Clwyd Street) has done just about the reverse and s blue and cream.

By Royal Endorsement

The dry cleaning agent now under the auspices of The Garment Spa enjoyed an internal makeover to complement the recent external one. The Garment Spa’s dry cleaning tickets come with a ‘though for the day’. I’m not sure whether there is more than one such ‘thought’ as mine have all been the same. No matter, though. Sadly, there’s no room amid the new counters for the old ticket issuing system once within.

Just before the preparations for the refurb, you could plainly see in the window a pristine polythene-covered, freshly laundered Father Christmas suit. It’s nice to think that Santa shops as well as delivers locally and that with all the world to chose from he relies on the quality of the local dry cleaner. Perhaps The Garment Spa should seek an endorsement.

Clearance (1)

Opened a fortnight ago is a temporary menswear designer clearance fashion shop in the former empty Ragazzi premises, Clwyd Street. When we say empty, it did have a number of second hand pianos for viewing by telephone appointment only, none of which ever seemed to sell. There’s still one baby grand within, at £850.

Clearance (2)

The bank at the entrance to the Parc Brynhyfryd estate has been cleared of brambles and doesn’t it look the better for it.

Going Green

The windows in the chiropodist at the ‘foot’ of Clwyd Street in the former Banton opticians have gone an unusual green. No matter what you think of the colour, it certainly stands out. It's also renamed Absolute Footwear.
