Hurrah for the Market

And hurrah for the sunshine.

The organisers of Saturday’s final produce market of the season will be delighted with the turn out. Not on every occasion was the produce market so well supported. Saturday morning was especially brisk. And in a repeat of last year, there were sheep and birds of prey and other stands on a pedestrianised St Peter’s Square. It all added to giving Rhuthun a bit of a late season boost in the glorious sunshine.

As ever, it proved that there are significant local traders who offer alternatives to our modern, homogenised supermarket society, from organic meats, to cider, to confectionery, to cakes, to cards.

But what happens when the produce market shuts depressingly early? What happens till the Christmas market (on 6th December) or next spring? Is it back to the supermarkets? We’ve argued before that Rhuthun needs something a little more consistent but, sadly, there appears no appetite to do so.
