Both the BBC and Sunday Telegraph have reported favourably on Canolfan Crefftau Rhuthun/Ruthin Craft Centre. These national institutions have beaten local press hands down.

Indeed, the recent report in the Telegraph is the second complimentary article on Rhuthun in seven months.

On 28 July 2008, the nightly BBC Radio 4’s Front Row arts programme devoted eight of its 30 minutes to the Craft Centre's do over. It featured the artspace with its masterful use of “wide slices of light from the big windows” which initially left the reporter mystified as to where the light actually came from, so discrete was it. Meanwhile, director Phillip Hughes commented that there was “something very human” about a building that “belongs here” yet was related to what the building does. The courtyard studios and other rooms were similarly airy with natural light, remarked the BBC.

Last Sunday’s Telegraph commented on the “strikingly modern reworking of the site that lifts up its eyes to the hills and makes a bold connection with the surrounding country.” It says of Hughes that he has “taken a provincial little gallery and turned it into something of international significance.” This initially sounds slightly derogatory!

And, at last, a local newspaper in reporting the Telegraph interest, steps forward with praise for the centre. Your Vale comments that the centre received a “glamorous makeover”.
