Readers of freesheet The Vale Advertiser will be eager to see how today's makeover to ‘Your Vale’ will go. After all, the Friday Vale not only emerged a day behind its Free Press rival, it’s getting to the point where it feels very thin indeed. Last Friday’s was a record 24 pages slim, of which only about seven pages contained news and sport. Your Vale promises something new and in conjunction with a simultaneous revamp of its website (itself altered about two months ago), perhaps the package will be worth the wait. And, its availability one day ahead of its competition will do it no harm.

The downside is that Your Vale will no longer be delivered and will be exclusively available in Rhuthun at Co-op Station Rd, Co-op Borthyn and Tesco. No mention of any local newsagents or stores. Why not at Castle Bell, Bridge Services or Duke’s Stores? And village shops? Will they all suffer a footfall reduction as a result?

And finally, a suggestion. Why not combine the Vale with Trinity’s sister paper the Rhyl & Prestatyn Visitor, to create something different, something for the whole county? That might be good for advertisers, too. There’s already a divide somewhere between Dinbych and Llanelwy/St Asaph where readers need to make a choice as to which paper to go for. And Dinbych tends to look towards y Rhyl in any case.
