Let's Hear it for Crispin

Will you have a couple of hours to volunteer to join the town council’s usual clean up and litter pick this morning, starting at 10 a.m. at Crispin Yard?

It’s rather sad that the Free Press’ announcement on this has to qualify exactly where Crispin Yard actually *is*, by adding ‘by Cae Ddol play area’. We’re all in the habit of referring to the area as Cae Ddol when in fact the car park is Crispin Yard, so named after St Crispin, the patron saint of tanners, shoemakers and leather workers. Yes, historically, this area of Rhuthun and Mwrog Street was associated with tanneries.

Fair play, Denbighshire council no longer refers to its car park as Cae Ddol, as Glyndŵr council once did. We should all follow Denbighshire’s lead and positively discriminate in favour of the name Crispin Yard. It's a heritage thing.
