Kick in Teeth

UPDATES: Pleass see the comments box

“A magical setting with fantastic historical connections, the town of Ruthin really is the ‘Jewel in the Vale’ of Clwyd”.

So says a press release from the organisers of Ruthin’s Medieval Festival, a series of events over the last weekend in April to include re-enactments and entertainments centred on Ruthin Castle. If you recall the Sealed Knot re-enactments last summer, you’ll be looking forward to the Medieval Weekend with anticipation.

The town council’s website acknowledges the event as deliberately extending thte tourist season, a move that must be welcomed by traders and townspeople alike.

In what appears to be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Rhuthun, why have the event organisers suddenly moved the Ruthin Medieval Festival to Bodelwyddan Castle instead? Insufficient space at Castell Rhuthun? Or is perhaps Ruthin Castle sore at Denbighshire planners' decision not to grant permission to build log cabins in the castle grounds?
