Think you Know Rhuthun?

Think you Known Rhuthun?Since the very beginning of December, over each of the subsequent 24 days, we’ve uploaded an image of Rhuthun. We’ve challenged those who read this blog to think about where in town each is. We’ve called it a Christmas quiz, though there’ve been no prizes.

Now is the time to reveal the answers. How many did *you* get?

24th December. This is the most intriguing. It's the Madonna and Child. It's *not* on the Roman Catholic church in Mwrog Street but above Tommy's Hairdressers at the bottom of Clwyd Street. The building looks like it was once a chapel. If so, why does a non-conformist place of worship have a Madonna?

23rd December. Detail from The Feathers pub, Well Street. 22nd December. This is a shot of a garage door in Prior Street. Note on the right a gauge for the dispensing of "motor spirit" (petrol to us, these days).

21st December. Old notice board at the former financial and mortgage centre, Upper Clwyd Street.

20th December. Mast array on Wynnstay Road, at the rear of Crown House.

19th December. Another intriguing shot. This is what remains of a pulley & hoist, above the farmers' union building at the bottom of Clwyd Street.

18th December. Water pump in the front garden of the recently refurbished Iwerddon, Castle Street.

17th December. Former jeweller's business on Upper Clwyd Street, now closed owing to retirement.

16th December. A recent addition to the town is the name and date above Crown Cottage, Well Street.

15th December. Sign hanging above Yr Hen Angor/The Old Anchor. As a commenter pointed out, Yr Angor lost it's AA accreditation some years ago.

14th December. Old railway track at the lay-by on the Denbigh Road near the Farmers' Market and Cae Bricks. This is another intriguing shot. The tracks were for sidings.

13th December. Balustrade to the rear of a property in Mill Street.

12th December. Old and redundant sign post on Mwrog Street, opposite Lôn Fawr, when the A494 used to go that way.

11th December. Impressive chimney on the roof of Gareth Lynch, Jewellers.

10th December. Detail from the gates to St Peter's Collegiate Church, off St Peter's Square.
9th December. Wattle and daub detail in the Castle Mews.

8th December. Window details to the rear of St Peter's Church.

7th December. Rear of Restaurant on the Hill, as seen from the Wine Vaults yard, off Upper Clwyd Street. Note the old window in the corner.
6th December. Part of the sign above Slater's garage, Well Street.
5th December. The last mounting step in Rhuthun, as seen at the Star Inn, Clwyd Street.

4th December. Flags outside County Hall, on Wynnstay Road.
3rd December. A king's head on Siop Elfair, Clwyd Street. Elfair was once a pub but so far as we know not the King's Head.
2nd December. Hovis sign above The Village Bakery, Well Street.

1st December. Old "motor spirit" pump in the yard behind what is now the Castle Mews. Seen from Record Street.
