See you There?

Last year’s “heritage weekend” was dubbed a success. It was a joy to see the town brimming with people, even in the face of stiff competition during Tesco’s second month.

And they’re doing it again next week, on 29 and 30 September. Let’s hope the numbers in town again far outweigh those in Tesco. Don’t bother to book on the tours, though, as by the time you read this they’ll undoubtedly be full.

But there’s still plenty to see. The Old Gaol has additional activities. There’s an antiques fair at Rhuthun School. There will be what promises to be a most interesting exhibition in the library on Rhuthun’s soda water industry, the turn of the century's major employers in the town (the library’ll be open on both days till 4.30).

The library itself (old record office and courthouse) has tours at 11.00 and 2.00 each day. We understand there’s no need to book in advance for these (best to check). Castell Rhuthun Castle is open each day over the weekend. And the old courthouse (NatWest bank) will be open on Saturday. Various churches and chapels will be open over the weekend, save during public worship.

Added to which there’s the local produce market at St Peter’s Square and the Old Gaol courtyard, on Saturday. See you in Rhuthun at the weekend?

E&OE.
