17th Century

Second post on the Sealed Knot here
It was a sheer delight to see the Sealed Knot parading around Rhuthun/Ruthin yesterday to re-enact the civil war siege of Rhuthun. There’d been nothing before on this scale in North Wales.

The 39 sponsoring town traders will feel content with the number of people who turned out. One woman from Bae Colwyn Bay who came especially commented how pretty was Rhuthun. She’d apparently never been before. We trust she and other visitors will come again.

And the pubs can’t’ve complained about evening trade, either. It’s thirsty work under all that armour.

You have to admire the Sealed Knot for their authenticity and immense attention to detail. The layers of clothing and armour, arms & blades, jewellery, pouches, powder caskets. Patched clothing, repaired and dented armour, part-ripped flags all added to the sense of realism. And not a hint of the 21st century, even down to accurate footwear. Roundheads, Irish mercenaries, cavaliers, conscripts, medics, gentry, they were all represented and resplendent.

It's also on this afternoon at Cae Ddol, 2.30-4.30.
